Malaysia covers a total landmass of 330,803 square kilometres (127,720 sq miles) and is divided into two separate regions - West (or Peninsular) Malaysia and East Malaysia (Malaysian Borneo). These two regions are separated by the South China Sea into a pair of similarly sized chunks of land; both feature coastal plains rising towards inland hills and mountains covered by rainforest.
